Skiing is typically easier to learn. The professional ski instructors of Mount Pleasant teach children as young as 3 to ski but try to hold off on snowboarding until age 6. If you want a challenge, try snowboarding!
Mount Pleasant recommends 3 as the youngest starting age for children, in fact snowboarders will have more success if they are older. Ultimately, it’s the parent’s decision. Remember - 5 and under ski free with a paying parent.
If you're looking to simply improve your skills, the best option is private lessons. With private lessons, you can select an instructor you like and they will work with you one-on-one to hone the skills you want to work on!

Ski / Snowboard
It's definitely important to stay warm while skiing, especially during the harsh winters of the Erie region. When skiing, snowboarding or tubing at Mount Pleasant, snow pants and a jacket are a must, preferably waterproof. Sometimes tights and waterproof pants are all you’ll need, depending on the weather. Another important clothing item to bring is a hat to cover up your ears to prevent illness. Gloves or mittens are important to prevent frost bite. Glove liners are very useful, not only do they add to warmth but also act as a hand covering if you need to take off your glove for something. You’ll probably want to bring goggles to help you see better when the wind is blowing or when you're riding at higher speeds. Sunny days will require sunglasses or goggles that also block the sun. We do not recommend a scarf – it may become caught in the chair or other equipment. Several lightweight layers are extremely effective like long underwear and a turtle neck. One pair of wool blend socks is ideal, but try to avoid wearing multiple layers. Your feet must be able to move around so your blood can circulate and enable your foot to stay warm. Cotton is the least warm material. Wool stays warm even when it’s wet!
When filling out a rental form at Mount Pleasant, you will be asked for your correct weight and height. The rental technicians will then use this information to determine the best equipment just for you.
Mount Pleasant provides rental skis, snowboards, boots, poles, and helmets. We do not rent clothing or goggles.

Mount Pleasant provides all the tubes.
To get up the tubing hill, you sit in the tube while a Mount Pleasant employee hooks the tube’s handle onto a conveyor handle tow. It will pull you up the hill in no time! At the top, you will roll out of the tube. An employee will grab the handle of the tube and pass it to you as you head to the starting ramp.
